The elastic-plastic behaviour of a solid circular bar made of a homogeneous, isotropic and nonhardening material but of a rate-dependent type, subjected to different proportional deformation programmes of twist and stretch, is analysed. In this investigation the material is assumed to yield according to the von Mises criterion and then to follow a rate-dependent post-yield constitutive law of the Perzyna type. Four radial paths in the angte-of-twist and axial-stretch plane were investigated. For each deformation path the numerical solution of the governing system of quasi-linear partial differential equations gave the corresponding loading path and the radial variation of the stress field at selected times. This study complements that of S. A. Meguid and J.D. Campbell (1979) which considered mainly nonproportional deformation paths. In this work residual stress profiles were also calculated, based upon instantaneous unloading after various amounts of deformation. Comparison with predictions of a rateindependent theory for a limiting state, where elastic strains are negligible, is made. Over a considerable range, the loading paths beyond the initial yield were nearly straight, at the elastic slope. The load trajectory then bends over and approaches a point on the limit-state locus. The results showed that the approximate procedure of increasing the flow stress by an empirically determined factor corresponding to a mean plastic strain-rate gave a good estimate for the limit-state stresses.  相似文献

The equations of one-dimensional (with a plane of symmetry) adiabatic motion of an ideal gas are transformed to a form convenient for studying flows between a moving piston and a shock wave of variable intensity. The solution is found for the equations of a motion containing a shock wave which propagates through a quiescent gas with variable initial density and constant pressure. This solution contains four arbitrary constants and, in a particular case, gives an example of adiabatic shockless compression by a piston of a gas initially at rest.  相似文献

The supersonic unsteady flow of a gas past a lattice of thin, slightly curved profiles has been investigated in several studies. The paper [1] is devoted to an evaluation of the effect of wind tunnel walls on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of a profile, and [2] investigates the effects of the boundaries of a free jet. These cases are equivalent respectively to the anti-phase and in-phase oscillations of the profiles of an unstaggered grid. In [3] consideration is given to a more general case of gas flow past a profile in a wind tunnel with perforated walls. Flow past a lattice of profiles with stagger is studied in [4], where the magnitude of the stagger angle is limited by the condition that the lattice leading edge is located in the undisturbed stream.In the present paper we present a method of calculation of the unsteady supersonic flow of a gas past a lattice of profiles with arbitrary stagger. As an example the results are presented of the calculation of the aerodynamic forces and moments acting on an oscillating profile in a wind tunnel with solid walls and in a free jet.  相似文献

The rheological properties of dense silica in water suspensions (approx. 50% solids by volume) containing additions of metal oxides were examined. Metal oxides used were ferric, zinc and stannic. To prevent settling, testing was performed in a rheometer which was modified to provide for continual stirring of the materials. Relatively small oxide additions had the effect of thickening the mixtures and making them non-Newtonian. Different rate-limiting steps for flow were identified depending on the particular mixture, testing temperature and shear strain rate. Flow could be described using empirical equations which are identical to those often used to describe plastic flow in solid crystalline materials.  相似文献

A slit viscometer has been constructed to measure the viscosity of aqueous systems at temperatures up to 140 °C. Liquid is forced backwards and forwards through the slit by the use of varying air pressure. The flow rate is obtained from the time for the liquid to pass conductivity probes located in liquid reservoirs either side of the slit. The pressure difference between two points on the slit wall is determined using a differential pressure transducer. By varying the slit height measurements can be made on liquids with viscosities in the range 10 to 10–3 Pa s. Shear rates from 10 to 104 s–1 can be achieved. A simple microcomputer control system enables the shear stress to be automatically increased and decreased stepwise. Representative data on polysaccharide solutions and strach suspensions are presented. The viscometer is particularly well-suited for following temperature-dependent biopolymer transitions and the thermal depolymerisation of water soluble polymers.  相似文献

The wall static pressure in the vicinity of drag reducing outer layer devices in flat wall turbulent boundary layers has been measured and compared with an inviscid theory. Symmetric and cambered airfoil devices have been examined at small angles of attack and very low chord Reynolds numbers. Airfoil devices impose a sequence of strong favorable and adverse pressure gradients on the boundary layer whose drag is to be reduced. At very small angles of attack (± 2°), this pressure field extends up to about three chord lengths downstream of the trailing edge of an airfoil device. Also examined are the pressures on the upper and lower surfaces of a symmetric airfoil device in the freestream and near the wall. The freestream pressure distribution around an airfoil section is altered by the wall proximity. The relevance of lift enhancement caused by wall proximity to drag reduction has been discussed. The pressure distributions on the flat wall beneath the symmetric airfoil devices are predicted well by the inviscid theory. However, the remaining pressure distributions are predicted only qualitatively, presumably because of strong viscous effects.  相似文献

The cone penetrometer is a simple versatile device which is widely used to monitor the strength of a soil in terms of its resistance to the penetration of a standard cone. The soil penetration resistance is a function of soil moisture content, soil specific weight and soil type. The soil type is characterised by means of a clay ratio which is the ratio of the clay content of the soil to the content of silt and sand.Based on the classical bearing capacity theories for strip foundations, a general cone penetration resistance equation is developed to represent the variability of cohesion and friction angle by means of soil type and moisture content. The empirical relationship is shown to give an accurate prediction of the cone penetration resistance for a wide range of soils from a loamy sand to a heavy clay (clay ratios 0.10–1.60) and over a wide spectrum of soil moisture contents from 10 to 65% w/w.  相似文献

An experimental study of natural convection in a parallelepipedal enclosure induced by a single vertical wall is described. The upper half of this wall was warm and the lower half cold. The other enclosure walls were insulated. The temperature and flow measurements were performed in the high Rayleigh number regime (1010<Ra<5×1010) by using water as the working fluid. The Rayleigh number was based on the enclosure height and the temperature difference between the warm and the cold part of the driving wall. The flow field featured two flat cells, one filled with warm fluid along the top horizontal wall, and the other filled with cold fluid along the bottom horizontal wall. Each of these cells was surrounded by an additional cell as tall as half the enclosure height. The above flow structure prohibited extensive thermal contact between warm and cold fluid, thus limiting the role of convection on the heat transfer process in the cavity. The findings of this study differ significantly from the findings of previous studies based on the ‘classical’ enclosure model possessing two isothermal vertical walls, the one warm and the other cold, and support the view that the use of ‘more realistic‘ temperature boundary conditions in enclosure natural convection needs careful examination.  相似文献

Some two-dimensional internal wave systems are generated experimentally by a cylinder moving with constant velocity in a thermocline modelled with stratified brine. The phase configuration of the waves is shown to compare quite well with ray theory, and the phase changes which result from energy reflections are well defined in some of the schlieren photographs.  相似文献

A simulation model to predict the effect of velocity on rigid-wheel performance for off-road terrain was examined. The soil–wheel simulation model is based on determining the forces acting on a wheel in steady state conditions. The stress distribution at the interface was analyzed from the instantaneous equilibrium between wheel and soil elements. The soil was presented by its reaction to penetration and shear. The simulation model describes the effect of wheel velocity on the soil–wheel interaction performances such as: wheel sinkage, wheel slip, net tractive ratio, gross traction ratio, tractive efficiency and motion resistance ratio. Simulation results from several soil-wheel configurations corroborate that the effect of velocity should be considered. It was found that wheel performance such as net tractive ratio and tractive efficiency, increases with increasing velocity. Both, relative wheel sinkage and relative free rolling wheel force ratio, decrease as velocity increases. The suggested model improves the performance prediction of off-road operating vehicles and can be used for applications such as controlling and improving off-road vehicle performance.  相似文献
